008: Godfather vs. Godfather

"008:  Godfather vs. Godfather"

It was the offer heard around the world and over forty years later, it still cannot be denied.  The saga of Vito Corleone's immigration to America and the family and business he built has become cinema legend.  From the pages of Mario Puzo's novel through the screenplay, theatrical films and Chronological Saga recut for television, Francis Ford Coppola's vision of the family Corleone continues its influence on movies, pop culture, acting, filmmaking, music, editing and even The Sopranos.  How was the novel adapted?  What was left out?  What about those hours of deleted scenes, numerous aborted scripts for III and the ideas Puzo and Coppola complied for IV?  Popping the cork on a bottle of Coppola's finest, the Gauntlet dives back into the "vs." series with an epic look into all things Godfather.

011: Dazed by Dazed

"011:  Dazed by Dazed"

High School. Texas. 1976.  KISS rules the FM airwaves, bell bottom jeans are hip, pinball, pool and foosball are the games of choice...and the pursuit of sex, drugs, beer and Aerosmith tickets rages on in the American teenage landscape.  Seventeen years later, writer-director Richard Linklater set out to capture on film a greatest hits of high school memories, following twenty-four characters from every corner of the high school experience.  Twenty years later, DAZED AND CONFUSED continues to grow from its roots as a cult movie to a modern classic of American teenage behavior.

Celebrating 20 years of DAZED, the Gauntlet crew fires up the GTO, joins the beer bust and returns to the Spirit of '76.

006: Political Cinema

"006: Political Cinema"

It came from Hollywood, but the target was Washington D.C.  In the last century of cinema, the political film has come of age and grown into a wicked mirror of the American policital system.  From the outside looking in, to the inside looking for a way up -- fact and fiction go swimming with satire and drama, as The Gauntlet digs into political themed movies from 1939 - 2012, discovering there is still a lot of red, white and blue in the heartland of the American political film.

005: Raiders Story Conference

"005: Raiders Story Conference"

In January of 1978, after a year of blockbuster success with STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg sat down with writer Lawrence Kasdan to hash out ideas for a new adventure film featuring a hero named Indiana Smith.  Over the next few days, Lucas, Spielberg and Kasdan would continue to
spitball ideas for what would become RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, leaving a tape recorder on to record their thoughts and ideas.  What was said and put down on paper would turn into one of the most successful characters and franchises in Hollywood history.

Now for the first time, the entire story conference has been recorded and scored with music and clips from the films, providing a rare insight into the creative process of Lucas, Spielberg and Kasdan and showcasing the strengths of creative collaboration.
