011: Dazed by Dazed

"011:  Dazed by Dazed"

High School. Texas. 1976.  KISS rules the FM airwaves, bell bottom jeans are hip, pinball, pool and foosball are the games of choice...and the pursuit of sex, drugs, beer and Aerosmith tickets rages on in the American teenage landscape.  Seventeen years later, writer-director Richard Linklater set out to capture on film a greatest hits of high school memories, following twenty-four characters from every corner of the high school experience.  Twenty years later, DAZED AND CONFUSED continues to grow from its roots as a cult movie to a modern classic of American teenage behavior.

Celebrating 20 years of DAZED, the Gauntlet crew fires up the GTO, joins the beer bust and returns to the Spirit of '76.

006: Political Cinema

"006: Political Cinema"

It came from Hollywood, but the target was Washington D.C.  In the last century of cinema, the political film has come of age and grown into a wicked mirror of the American policital system.  From the outside looking in, to the inside looking for a way up -- fact and fiction go swimming with satire and drama, as The Gauntlet digs into political themed movies from 1939 - 2012, discovering there is still a lot of red, white and blue in the heartland of the American political film.

Why No Oliver Stone Films?
In order to give the proper time and space to the political filmwork of Oliver Stone, his movies were skipped over for this first Political Cinema discussion, but will be highlighted in the future show:
