006: Political Cinema

"006: Political Cinema"

It came from Hollywood, but the target was Washington D.C.  In the last century of cinema, the political film has come of age and grown into a wicked mirror of the American policital system.  From the outside looking in, to the inside looking for a way up -- fact and fiction go swimming with satire and drama, as The Gauntlet digs into political themed movies from 1939 - 2012, discovering there is still a lot of red, white and blue in the heartland of the American political film.

Why No Oliver Stone Films?
In order to give the proper time and space to the political filmwork of Oliver Stone, his movies were skipped over for this first Political Cinema discussion, but will be highlighted in the future show:

    1. These big topic shows are taking a bit longer to complete, but we are still recording new shows. Two more are due to drop in Sept. So three shows totaling 13 hours should hopefully make up for some lost time.

005 and 006 were recorded last year and got bumped for 007 and ArenA: Star Wars, so that is why the release schedule and show numbers are the way they are. Plus 005 took a bit longer to put together. But soon all the show numbers will line up and all will be clear.

    2. Oh no worries...I just don't want you, using political terms, to lose your base. It's too bad more people don't comment, by the way. That's certainly the case across every blog I read. Not unique to THG. Feedback is good.

  2. Another terrific episode from John and the gang at The Hollywood Gauntlet. The podcast was entertaining and informative...and this is coming from someone who typically shy's away from films that delve into the political arena. I'll definitely be checking out some of the films on your list.
Thanks for all the hard work. Great job, as usual.

  3. Really liked this one. Motivated me to finally watch A Face in the Crowd, which I'd been meaning to get to forever. Every bit as good as you guys claimed. Thanks for the extra push.
