005: Raiders Story Conference

"005: Raiders Story Conference"

In January of 1978, after a year of blockbuster success with STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg sat down with writer Lawrence Kasdan to hash out ideas for a new adventure film featuring a hero named Indiana Smith.  Over the next few days, Lucas, Spielberg and Kasdan would continue to
spitball ideas for what would become RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, leaving a tape recorder on to record their thoughts and ideas.  What was said and put down on paper would turn into one of the most successful characters and franchises in Hollywood history.

Now for the first time, the entire story conference has been recorded and scored with music and clips from the films, providing a rare insight into the creative process of Lucas, Spielberg and Kasdan and showcasing the strengths of creative collaboration.

  1. I love getting a new Hollywood Gauntlet podcast and this one's a lot of fun. I had no idea this transcript/recording even existed and I'm a huge Raiders fan. It's pretty cool to hear how they worked out the characters and logistics of the action set pieces. Lotsa great stuff here.

  3. Absolutely fascinating to listen to this. Thank you for doing this. Hearing all the ideas - some never used and some used in the subsequent movies - were great. And hearing those moments when they hit on an idea that you know becomes a classic moment in the movie (or when you hear Harrison Ford as the first name mention) is priceless. Thanks again.
